    Chanson du Soir is the husband and wife team of David Isaacs, on the classical guitar, and Chelsea Camille, soprano. It’s a combination not heard often in concert halls, but after hearing it once you’ll wonder why.

    Chanson du Soir will be in performance at the Belle Isle Library, 5501 N. Villa, on Saturday, October 6 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. The concert is free and suitable for all ages.

    Within minutes of the reopening of the Southern Oaks Library on Tuesday afternoon, Betty Best was on her way out the door with a book.

    Best was one of the first customers to see the remodeled library after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. She lives across the street and had visited the branch at 6900 S Walker at least twice a week before it closed in May 2011.

    The Metropolitan Library System invites you to celebrate its Extreme Makeover, Southern Oaks edition.

    The Southern Oaks Library, at 6900 S. Walker, welcomes the public back to its renovated facility with a Grand Opening / Open House on Tuesday, September 25 at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Oklahoma City University Steel Drum Band, followed by the Classen SAS High School Jazz Band at 6:30 p.m. It’s all free and everyone is welcome.

    Since its opening on May 22, 2012, the Patience S. Latting Northwest Library, the latest entirely new library in the Metropolitan Library System, has proven to be one of the most popular. And the celebration continues.

    The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System, sponsors of the Annual FOL Booksale, will be holding a special late summer sale on Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Friends Sort Site, 300 N.E. 50th Street. Books will be sold by the box in categories that include paperback romance, mystery, religion, fiction and children’s. Boxes will sell for $3.50 to $25.00, depending on genre and number of books available.

    Take a time when steam power was cutting edge technology, such as in Victorian England, or America in the nineteenth century. Now apply that technology to the world of the future, as in the novels of Jules Verne or H.G. Wells. That way of seeing things, and the culture that fosters it, is steampunk.

    The Southern Oaks Library, which has been temporarily located in the Almonte Shopping Center at 2914 S.W. 59th Street, will close on Monday, September 10th to get everything moved back to the newly renovated Southern Oaks Library site at 6900 S. Walker. The renovated library will re-open on Tuesday, September 25 at 3:30 p.m.

    The Bethany Library, 3510 N. Mueller, will be closed August 10 for repairs. The Library will reopen to normal operating hours on August 11, 2012.

    Alicia Clifton, Miss Oklahoma 2012, will visit the Downtown Library, 300 Park Avenue, on Thursday, August 2 at 10:00a.m. to help the Metropolitan Library System inaugurate a new series of early childhood programming events designed for the youngest readers and pre-readers.
