    All libraries in the Metropolitan Library System will close at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 and remain closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving.

    Access to digital resources like eBooks, eAudiobooks, online research sources, digital magazines, streaming tv & movies and music downloads are available anytime at www.metrolibrary.org.

Marvel Entertainment is “one of the world’s most character-based entertainment companies, build on a proven library of over 8,000 characters featured in a variety of media over seventy years.” We have lots of Marvel movies in our collection.

    Someone recently asked me this: "If you could choose any category to play in Jeopardy, what would it be?" My immediate answer: "80s pop culture, please!" To me, the 80s were a wonderful and awkward decade of perms, mullets, "mom jeans," and wood paneling, alongside some of the best films, books, music, and art.

    144 novels were submitted, the longlist of 13 was whittled down to the shortlist of six, and the winner was announced October 17. First awarded in 1969, the Man Booker is one of the leading prizes for literary fiction written in English. For most of its history, the prize was limited to the UK and Commonwealth, but the rules were changed in 2014 to expand to all English language novels published in the UK during the year.

    The Nobel Prize in Literature is given in recognition of a writer’s entire body of work rather than a single title. This year’s just announced recipient is British author Kazuo Ishiguro.  Born in Nagasaki, Japan, Ishiguro moved to Surrey, England when he was 5 years old and was raised and educated there.  In a recent interview, he said he discovered his love for literature through the Sherlock Holmes stories he found at the library.  Yeah, libraries!
