About the Metropolitan Library System:

In 2015, the Metropolitan Library System (MLS) celebrated a milestone – its 50th anniversary of services to the residents of Oklahoma County. This large, diverse system of suburban, urban and rural libraries serves the nearly 800,000 residents of Oklahoma County through 19 libraries. The Library’s mission, “we grow smarter communities, one person at a time”, speaks to its vision “to be the community’s hub for critical thinking, creative problem-solving and lifelong enrichment". With exciting programs like “Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma: Piecing the Quilt, Stirring the Stew: Ethnic American Women’s Voices”, resources for learning and job preparedness, family game fests, teen advisory boards and Lego robotics, the Library reaches out to serve the interests of people of all ages. The appointed Metropolitan Library Commission of Oklahoma County consists of 27 voting members who represent each municipality with a library or library extension located within its boundaries, as well as the Mayor of Oklahoma City and an Oklahoma County Commissioner. The Friends of the Library raise funds and advocate for the library. The Library Endowment Trust provides a means for private contributions to be invested on a permanent basis so that they can meet the future needs of the library.

This position will be primary assigned to the Choctaw Library at 2525 Muzzy Street, Choctaw, OK 73020 and may occasionally be scheduled for other Community Libraries:

About The Oklahoma City Metro Area:

The Oklahoma City (OKC) Metro Area is vibrant, progressive and friendly. A strong and growing economy combined with low housing prices and cost of living attracts people of all ages.

In 2015, Oklahoma City was chosen as one of the first two pilot cities for the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Initiative on Innovation and Placemaking by the Brookings Institute and Project for Public Space. The area surrounding the Oklahoma Health Center will be a place for business incubator projects, the city’s bioscience sector and future developments.

Major revitalization efforts in downtown OKC are creating exciting cultural and sports venues as well as a strong business center. The Bricktown Entertainment District, Film Row, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum attract residents and visitors alike. The new American Indian Cultural Center and Museum will open in 2022.

Dubbed “Loud City”, sports fans cheer on the NBA basketball team, the Oklahoma City Thunder and its developmental league team, the Oklahoma City Blue.  Baseball and soccer fans enjoy the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Triple-A baseball team, the Oklahoma City Dodgers and the United Soccer League team, OKC Energy FC.

With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, outdoor activities are plentiful and families can enjoy rowing, canoeing, and kayaking on the Oklahoma River, which is home to a high performance training center for Olympic athletes.
