Under the direction of the Access Services Manager II, III or IV (depending on location size), the Access Specialist II assists members by issuing and receiving library materials, locating books and other materials, managing members’ library accounts, issuing library cards, providing information about library accounts and services, assisting with self-service equipment and technology, and assisting with basic collection maintenance.

Governed by a 27-member appointed Library Commission, this large, diverse system of urban, suburban and rural libraries consisting of 14 full service libraries and four community libraries, serves 750,000 Oklahoma County residents. In 2016, MLS welcomed 2.9 million visitors and circulated 5.6 million items. This position will be assigned to Ralph Ellison Library at 2000 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73111. The Ralph Ellison library opened in 1975 and was named in honor of Oklahoma City native and acclaimed author Ralph Ellison. In 2009, the library went through extensive renovations and reopened as a modernized 16,620 square foot location which included a new 2,650 square foot meeting room.

Qualifications: 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • One or more years of customer service experience.

Highly Preferred Qualification and Competencies:

  • Experience with a library automated circulation system (e.g. CarlX)
  • Strong desire to work with and help people.
Salary and Benefits: 

Anticipated hiring salary range is $12.86 to $15.50 per hour.
