  • Belle Isle Butterfly garden

    The Belle Isle Library recently welcomed some very special new members to its property: beautiful monarch butterflies! The annual migration of North America’s monarch butterfly is an incredible phenomenon. The monarch is the only butterfly to migrate two ways, as birds do. Unlike other butterflies that can sleep through winter as larvae, pupae, or even as adults in some species, monarchs cannot survive the cold.

    Take a break from the chaos and reconnect your mind with the pleasure of relaxation and engaging scientific exploration. The Belle Isle Library, the Choctaw Library and Science Museum Oklahoma partner on a fun and therapeutic program. Bath Lab 2.0 will be held at the Belle Isle Library on Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. and will also be held at the Choctaw Library on Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m.

    The Metropolitan Library System welcomes Ashley Welke as the new manager of the Belle Isle Library January 4, 2016.  Welke has experience with human resources, management and library operations. She began her library career as a children’s librarian and volunteer coordinator and later as a branch manager at the Moore Public Library.

    The effects of major depression are far reaching, but most of those who are afflicted suffer in secret and silence. According Healthline.com, one in 10 Americans has symptoms of clinical depression, but over 80 percent of those are not receiving treatment.  Oklahoma is listed as one of the seven states with the highest rates of depression. The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance reports that depression is one of the top three workplace issues.

    Enjoy a musical celebration of “Beethoven the Creator” at the Belle Isle Library, 5501 N. Villa, Sunday, January 11 at 2 P.M., performed by classical pianist Wayne McEvilly

    Named for the 1929 book by Romain Rolland, “Beethoven the Creator” is a musical presentation honoring the music and life of Ludwig van Beethoven.
