The Metropolitan Library System is composed of 12 large, full-service libraries located conveniently throughout Oklahoma County, and five smaller extension libraries, four of which are located in the eastern part of the county in the cities of Harrah, Jones, Luther, and Nicoma Park.
We also maintain Outreach Collection in nursing homes and retirement centers, and fund a Books by Mail service for shut-ins. |

The Metropolitan Library Commission governs MLS. The Commission is made up of 27 voting members, 13 of whom are appointed by the mayor of Oklahoma City, 11 by the mayors of Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, Harrah, Jones, Luther, Midwest City, Nicoma Park, The Village, and Warr Acres. One member is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve as an at large member. Ex officio (voting) members of the Commission are the mayor of Oklahoma City and the chair of the Board of County Commissioners. The MLS' executive director serves as Secretary to the commission and is a non-voting member. Commission officers include a chair, a vice-chair, and disbursing agent. Funding is provided by an ad valorem property tax (5.2 mils). |
