It will be an evening of inspiration and adventure, when the Library Endowment Trust and the Metropolitan Library System host the second annual Literary Voices dinner April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Quail Creek Country Club in Oklahoma City.
This year's guest author will be Beck Weathers, an amateur climber and doctor who survived the most deadly day in the history of Mount Everest after being left for dead at 26,000 feet on the mountain. The author of Left for Dead: My Journey Home from Everest, Weathers will share how the human spirit ultimately triumphed over tragedy, changing his life forever.
The evening, which will benefit the programs and materials of the Metropolitan Library System of Oklahoma County, will kick off National Library Week, which runs April 18-24.
The 2003 author event, which was a sell out, brought newspaper columnist Dave Barry to town.
This year's event will also include the presentation of the 2004 Lee B. Brawner Lifetime Achievement Award. This year's recipient will be Nancy Anthony, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and a 27-year member of the Library Commission.
The Honorable Governor George Nigh will be Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
Reservations for the event are $75 each; special reservations of $125, which include a private reception with the author, are also available.
