Boogie Down!

Nobody could tell a story like Tyrone Wilkerson and his death from cancer at the early age of 57 in May of this year left a hole in the Oklahoma theater community that may never be filled.

Co-hosts DWe Williams and Al Bostick join a company of Oklahoma performers on October 28 in the 46 th . Star Auditorium of the Downtown Library, 300 Park Ave. , to celebrate the life and talent of this remarkable man. This one time only event begins at 2:00 p.m.

Born in Oklahoma City , Wilkerson was more than the "triple threat" so beloved among theater professionals. Not only could he generate performances that enchanted, uplifted, and sent audiences home with tears in their eyes from laughter and emotion, he was also a writer, director and designer. James D. Watts Jr., of The Tulsa World, called Wilkerson the "most complete man of the theater."

"The elders say cry when one comes into the world," said Dana Morrow, MLS Director of Outreach Services, "and rejoice when one goes home. This is what we want to do, celebrate the homegoing of a true gentleman, performer and artist."

The event is "Boogieing With Ty: A Celebration of Tyrone Wilkerson."

The story is told of Wilkerson that once, while traveling through the Chihuahua Desert in Mexico , Wilkerson was heard to say, "I don't know where we are, but we're dancing."

"Let's come together and dance in his memory," Morrow added. "Boogie down, boogie down!"
