Novelist Dayna Dunbar Visits MLS Libraries

"The Saints and Sinners of Okay County," Dayna Dunbar's prize-winning novel, has it all-a story about small town life in Oklahoma , an historical setting, and a psychic heroine who must find a way to feed the children of a broken home.

Author Dunbar, who grew up in Yukon , OK , before moving to Los Angeles , will be touring public libraries in Oklahoma and paying a series of visits to Metropolitan Library System sites beginning on Oct. 15 and running through Oct. 21.

Dunbar will present programs at the following libraries:

  • Oct. 15 at the RJN Downtown Library, 300 Park Ave , at 2:00 p.m. At 4:00 p.m. Dunbar will hold a writing workshop
  • Oct. 17 at The Village Library, 10307 N. Pennsylvania Ave , at 10:00 a.m.
  • Oct. 18 at the Midwest City Library, 8143 E. Reno , at 6:00 p.m.
  • Oct. 19 at the Southern Oaks Library, 6900 S. Walker , at 1:00 p.m.
  • Oct. 21 at the Edmond Library, 10 S. Boulevard, at 9:00 a.m. , with a writing workshop at 11:00 a.m.

"To learn how to write a novel, I wrote four screenplays in four years," Dunbar said. "I learned a huge amount about writing, story development, character development, and dialogue from writing screenplays. It was the best writing education I could have asked for."

Dunbar 's novel is the 2006 winner of the Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma competition. Begun in 2003 and due to conclude at the end of 2007, Oklahoma's Centennial year, the contest encourages Oklahomans to read six books written by Oklahoma writers or heavily laced with Oklahoma content. Readers then vote on the book they enjoyed the most.

Dayna Dunbar's talks and workshops are free and open to the public. For more information, call the library she'll be visiting that is nearest you or check out the website at www.metrolibrary.org.
