Phil Mitchell and his group Mitch's Brew will perform a jazz concert celebrating African-American month at the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library Sunday, Feb. 19, from 2 to 3 p.m.
" If you haven't heard Mitch's Brew, you're missing a true Oklahoma tradition," said librarian Darlene Browers.
Mitch's Brew will perform a varied jazz concert ranging from cool jazz ballads to explosive bebop. Selections will cover some of America 's greatest composers from Duke Ellington to Cole Porter to Count Basie.
Browers' says to bring your toe-tappin' shoes to this concert, "Jazz has a restless spirit and Mitch's Brew perfectly captures that spirit," said Browers.
Mitchell graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma and besides performing, he also conducts jazz history classes to emphasize the contributions of Oklahoma artists and gives students a whirlwind tour through the history of jazz.
No reservations are required for this free program. The program will be held in the fourth floor, 46 th Star Auditorium, of the Ronald J. Norick Library, 300 Park Avenue.
