Mosaic Tile Making Classes Coming to MLS Libraries
Six thousand years ago, the Sumerians decorated their homes and public buildings with mosaic tiles. Through the glory that was Greece and the grandeur that was Rome , the art of mosaics traveled from the ancient Middle East to Europe and reached its high point during the Byzantine Era.
Decorating with mosaics is still an extremely popular and elegant art form. To learn how to make your own mosaics, plan on attending a class at the Midwest City or Del City library.
The Midwest City Library program will be on Monday, Aug. 28, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. " Breaking up pieces of tile, glass, or fabric and putting them back together again is not only fun but it is also a way to create unique and personal art," said Deb Willis, Midwest City Manager of Library Operations. "In this class, participants will use various pieces of tile, fabric, or other art materials to create interesting, useable, or visually appealing art."
The Midwest City Library mosaic class is limited to 25. Please visit the Information Desk or call 732-4828 to register.
If you miss the class at Midwest City Library, join the Del City Library the next evening. Librarian Sam Weehunt invites the public to come and learn how to make your own mosaic pictures. "The library," Weehunt added, "will provide all the supplies you need. Just bring yourself and have fun."
The Del City Library class will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Call 672-1377 to pre register.
Both sessions are free and designed for all ages.
