The Metropolitan Library System, Oklahoma 's leader in public library technology, will have a new, more user friendly website design on Monday, Feb. 20, library officials announced today .
After several months of redesign by Webmaster Teresa Goggins and Deputy Executive Director of Technology, Jim Welch, the new look of the website at www.metrolibrary.org will make exploring the library system even easier than ever. "It's been a fun challenge for all of us," Goggins said. "But it will be a lot easier to navigate. Check it out."
"We've researched to see what information our customers access most and made these features easier to find and access," said Kim Terry, MLS Manager of Marketing and Communications.
Not only has the look of the site changed but several important features have been added or enhanced. CyberMARS, the site's most frequently visited area, is the library's catalog system and has a new look, and some great new features. Library customers can reserve and recheck books online, and can also:
- Place a reserve on any title available for check-out and have it delivered to the most convenient library
- Monitor the status of reserved materials
- View borrower record and renew materials
- View prepaid account record
- Designate preferences for their child's library card
- Search paid subscription Internet databases free-of-charge.
"We're really excited about the new changes in CyberMARS," Terry added. "The majority of the changes came from customer requests and we listened and implemented many of their suggestions."
Another change stemming from community recommendations is the enhanced Parental Preference Option, or PPO. The PPO is a useful tool for parents or guardians to limit the materials their children may borrow.
"The PPO has been available for several years now," said MLS Executive Director Donna Morris, "but
it has been enhanced with some new features. It is more user friendly, the number of materials a parent can limit has been increased, and parents can now block by keyword or subject."
"The new website design maintains our customer's favorite features," said Terry, "and they will always be at your fingertips on every page of your website visit. Keep current on local events and activities at your library by visiting the Calendar of Events often. Almost everything you need to know to use your library can be discovered at www.metrolibrary.org."
