When Wayne McEvilly performs a piano concert at the Belle Isle Library Dec. 3, from 2-3 p.m. , part of the concert will be dedicated to celebrating Ludwig Van Beethoven's December birthday.
McEvilly, classically trained at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music, has performed many free concerts for the Metropolitan Library System and are consistently a “sell-out crowd.”
McEvilly started studying the piano at age seven and held his first concert at age 12.
Although classical music may be considered high brow by some, McEvilly insists the great masters, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Schubert, believed classical music existed to be useful to the everyday man. And McEvilly mirrors that view. One audience he specifically initiates into that view is school children. He has performed in schools throughout the United States bringing classical music to the youngest of ears.
“Where else can you hear a musician of his caliber for free?” said Belle Isle Librarian Ann Meeks. “Mr. McEvilly has performed all over the world and has played Carnegie Hall. When he performs Beethoven he will undoubtedly include some of the master's most recognizable pieces.”
And in the seasonal spirit, the star pianist will also be performing some holiday favorites.
The Belle Isle Library is located at 5501 N. Villa. The program is free and open to the public.
