You won't hear anyone screaming, "It's alive! It's alive!" Teens attending the Build a Creature events at various Metropolitan Library System libraries during the month of June will concoct new beasties that would have Bigfoot scratching his head in perplexity, but no one will be doing a Frankenstein and bringing his or her creation to life.
At least, that's the hope of the library staff.
"No," laughed LaVetta Dent, MLS Manager of Library Operations at The Village Library, where the Build A Creature series continues on Tuesday, June 6 from 4 - 5:30 p.m. "we don't expect to see any monsters running loose in the library, so it should be safe for library customers to come see us that day without having to bring a bunch of wolfbane or wooden stakes and mallets."
But that doesn't mean that weird doings won't be going on. Not if local artist Scott Henderson has anything to say about it.
Build a Creature is his creation. It's a workshop during which teens will be encouraged to dismantle-"dismember" sounds so gruesome-stuffed animals, tear out the stuffing where necessary,
rearrange the parts, then sew them back together again. The result will be a collection of entirely new beings never before seen by man, woman or child.
"This should please teens who like to doodle pictures of fantastic animals on the covers of their school books," Dent added. "And teens who can't even doodle."
In addition to the session at The Village Library, 10307 N. Pennsylvania , Build a Creature takes place at the Warr Acres Library, 5901 NW 23 rd ., on June 6 from 7- 8:30 p.m. , the Edmond Library, 10 S. Boulevard, on June 13 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m., and the Ralph Ellison Library, 2000 SE 23 rd ., on June 15 from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

And when you build your own creature, please don't yell out, '"It's alive!"
But you may be able to sneak in one or two fiendish chuckles.
