Wi-Fi Available at All 17 Metropolitan Library System Libraries

The latest word in computer technology at your Metropolitan Library System is “Wi-Fi.”

Wi-Fi is wireless Internet access. It allows laptop computer users to access the Internet even without the wires that traditionally connect you with the service.

“ The Metropolitan Library System is a free wireless hotspot,” said MLS Director of Information Technology Anne Fischer. “Customers using wireless devices may access the Library's Internet service at all 17 of our library locations.”

Wireless service was initiated by MLS at its 12 full service libraries earlier this year. The addition of the five smaller libraries in Luther, Jones, Nicoma Park , Harrah, and at the Wright Library in Stockyard City complete the MLS Wi-Fi project.

Using Wi-Fi, library customers can access Internet databases and the library catalogs for an unlimited amount of time.

“To access the MLS Wi-Fi network,” Fischer added, “you need a computer or a PDA equipped with a standard Internet browser and a Wi-Fi compliant wireless Ethernet card.”

MLS Deputy Executive Director Jim Welch concluded, "It's a win-win situation for the Library, its customers and the communities we serve," said Welch. "We're happy to be able to provide this service free of charge to the public and to do our part in helping Oklahoma County increase its Wi-Fi profile."

The Metropolitan Library System of Oklahoma County includes 12 libraries and five extension libraries. Libraries include Belle Isle, Capitol Hill, Ralph Ellison, Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library and Southern Oaks in Oklahoma City, as well as Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, Midwest City, Village and Warr Acres. Extensions are located in the communities of Harrah, Jones, Luther and Nicoma Park and include Wright Library in Oklahoma City . You can also reach us at www.metrolibrary.org.
