Gustafer Yellowgold Show Returns For Two Library Performances

Gustafer Yellowgold is a children’s fantasy character who came to Earth from the sun and lives in a psychedelic version of the Minnesota woods. He’s ready for a visit to Oklahoma City—are you ready for him?

As part of the week-long Grand Opening celebration for the new Patience S. Latting Northwest Library from May 22-26, Gustafer Yellowgold will pay visits to the Northwest Library, 5600 N.W. 122nd (606-3561) and The Village Library, 10307 N. Pennsylvania (755-0710) on Saturday, May 26. The show will go on at Northwest Library at 10:30a.m. and at The Village Library at 2:00p.m.

Chinese Culture Program Comes to Belle Isle Library

In addition to its current place in world affairs, China has always cast a spell over the west.

To celebrate Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Belle Isle Library, 5501 N. Villa, is presenting Tao Ling with a free program that highlights various aspects of Chinese culture on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 2:00p.m. The session features a demonstration, with audience participation, of Tai Chi Quan, a performance of a Tai Chi Fan dance, and a demonstration of the intricacies of Chinese calligraphy.

History Book Club Meets at Edmond Library

147 years later historians still argue her guilt. Was Mary Surratt an active participant in the murder of Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, or just a character on the fringe of the plot who did not know what was going on?

Edmond Library’s History Book Club will meet on Thursday, May 17, to discuss theory and fact. University of Central Oklahoma Professor of History Dr. Stan Adamiak will facilitate a discussion of the book “The Assassin’s Accomplice” by Kate Clifford Larson. The session begins at 6:30p.m.

Patience S. Latting Northwest Library Grand Opening May 22

The dream of modern, innovative and inviting library service for northwest Oklahoma City, first discussed in the mid-1970s, is one step closer to coming true. The Patience S. Latting Northwest Library will officially open its doors Tuesday, May 22, 2012. After a formal ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m., the doors will open at 4:00 p.m.

“For years, there has been a need for a library in far northwest Oklahoma City,” Donna Morris, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Library system said. “and this library is a stunning and innovative one.”

Bethany Library to Close for One Week in May

The Bethany Library, 3510 N. Mueller, will be temporarily closed for air conditioning installation from Monday, May 14 through Sunday, May 20. The nearest location to Bethany is the Warr Acres Library, 5901 N.W. 63rd.

MLS Libraries Adding Extended Hours Beginning in May

Beginning Monday, May 7, member libraries in the Metropolitan Library System will add 128 hours per week of extended service.

According to executive director Donna Morris, “MLS has always tried to exercise a conservative fiscal policy, and because of that policy, in addition to opening the new Patience S. Latting Northwest Library on May 22, we are also able to better increase our service to the public by adding extended operating hours at every library in the system.
