Literacy Referral Service Available For Adults and Children

A child’s school years can provide memories that will last a lifetime. But sometimes those memories are not good ones if the students struggles to read.

The Metropolitan Library System, Oklahoma Community Foundation and Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition are working together to help central Oklahomans who want to improve their reading skills.

Chamber Music Concert With Chanson du Soir Coming to Belle Isle Library

Chanson du Soir is the husband and wife team of David Isaacs, on the classical guitar, and Chelsea Camille, soprano. It’s a combination not heard often in concert halls, but after hearing it once you’ll wonder why.

Chanson du Soir will be in performance at the Belle Isle Library, 5501 N. Villa, on Saturday, October 6 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. The concert is free and suitable for all ages.

Speed Dating For Adults at Downtown Library

Speed dating allows you to meet a lot of people of the opposite sex in a short amount of time. If you click with one of them, it could be the beginning of a new companionship, or even the start of a grand romance.

Book lovers who are interested in giving speed dating a try can visit the Downtown Library, 300 Park Avenue, to check out who’s there.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the library it’s Teen Read Month again. And for teens, it’s more than safe to go the library. It’s also fun.

No More Slips, Trips or Broken Hips

“Keep your feet on the ground” is excellent advice, but when the weather is cold and the ground is slippery it’s not so easy to do.

And that’s why the Metropolitan Library System is teaming with Integris 3rd Age Life and Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation to present “No More Slips, Trips or Broken Hips,” an informational program that will show people how to avoid falling.

Southern Oaks Library Celebrates Extreme Makeover and Grand Re-Opening

The Metropolitan Library System invites you to celebrate its Extreme Makeover, Southern Oaks edition.

The Southern Oaks Library, at 6900 S. Walker, welcomes the public back to its renovated facility with a Grand Opening / Open House on Tuesday, September 25 at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Oklahoma City University Steel Drum Band, followed by the Classen SAS High School Jazz Band at 6:30 p.m. It’s all free and everyone is welcome.

Since its opening on May 22, 2012, the Patience S. Latting Northwest Library, the latest entirely new library in the Metropolitan Library System, has proven to be one of the most popular. And the celebration continues.

Friends of the Library To Sell Books By the Boxful

The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System, sponsors of the Annual FOL Booksale, will be holding a special late summer sale on Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Friends Sort Site, 300 N.E. 50th Street. Books will be sold by the box in categories that include paperback romance, mystery, religion, fiction and children’s. Boxes will sell for $3.50 to $25.00, depending on genre and number of books available. Individually-priced Christmas and craft books will also be available for sale.
