The Metropolitan Library System’s annual Our World concert series has brought to central Oklahoma the music of South America, Asia, and the Louisiana bayous, but this year’s performances are something special. Prepare for the music of the Great White North.

Genticorum, a trio specializing in traditional music with a unique twist, will appear at 10 MLS locations between November 4-9.

New Library To Join Metro System

During the past thirteen months, while the Southern Oaks Library was undergoing renovations, library services were re-located to the Almonte Shopping Center at 2914 S.W. 59th Street. The temporary Almonte Library closed its doors in September when the newly remodeled Southern Oaks Library opened to the public at 6900 S. Walker, but it will soon re-open.

Possibility of Alien Life in the Universe Explored at Southern Oaks Library

Do the photos from the Mars Rover Curiosity give you the urge to explore the universe? Does looking at the stars draw you upward? Are you wearing out your “X-Files” DVD collection? Admit it—you’re a space junkie.

For you, the place to be on Monday evening, October 29, is the Southern Oaks Library, 6900 S. Walker, at 6:30 p.m. to meet Dr. Mukremin Kilic from the University of Oklahoma Department of Physics and Astronomy. Dr. Kilic will talk about the possibility of life as we know it on other planets, and life as we don’t know it.

Magician Steve Crawford Makes Laughter Appear At Capitol Hill Library Halloween Show

Magician Steve Crawford did not come into this world the way muggles like you did. He claims to have been pulled out of a hat. After seeing him perform, you won’t doubt him.

Crawford is bringing his act to the Capitol Hill Library, 334 S.W. 26th Street, for the library’s annual Halloween Magic Show on Saturday, October 27, from 2:00-3:00p.m.

Library Surplus Furniture and Equipment Sale Coming Soon

Once or twice a year the Metropolitan Library System has to make way for new furnishings by holding what could be called a large garage sale. This is not a book sale, but is instead a sale of surplus furniture and equipment.

The next MLS retail sale will be conducted on Friday, October 12, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. The sale will be held at the Metropolitan Library System Maintenance Center, 1364 N.E. 3rd, Oklahoma City.
