Happy Holidays from the Metropolitan Library System! This month we have several ways to celebrate and cheer for the upcoming holiday season.
Yesterday may have been cupcake day, but these fun cuppie reads will be great anytime of year!
As of today, there are only 9 more shopping days until Christmas. Luckily, today is National Cupcake Day, so grab a tasty snack on your way to the mall. Feel the sugar coursing through your veins while fighting holiday crowds.
First mention of the cupcake in America can be traced back to 1796. Amelia Simmons mentioned “a cake to be baked in small cups” in American Cookery. Quite popular with colonial cooks, only 4 copies are known to exist from that first printing.
With their large, predominately red or white leaves, the poinsettia is the botanical representation of Christmas. Right after the evergreen tree. And mistletoe. And holly. Wow, there are a lot of plants associated with Christmas, but the poinsettia is the only one that is deadly!
Not really. Poisonous poinsettias are a myth. While eating them can cause profuse vomiting, they will not kill you, or your pets. But really, they taste terrible so DON’T TRY IT!
But we at the library are all about providing access to information, so here you go. International Ninja Day is December 5th.
Celebrate National Cookie Day and treat yourself! Check out a stack of cookbooks from the library and figure out the best way to satisfy your sweet tooth. We have so many beautiful illustrated recipe guides, you're sure to find the perfect treat.
