Teens Can Serve Their Community at the Library

Teens Can Serve Their Community at the Library

Community service is often an integral part of life for metro teens. Many schools, clubs or churches require it. The library is an excellent place for teens to serve, and the benefits are reciprocal.

Teen service teams are a vital part of the library environment. Groups of teens serve at their community libraries on a regular basis. Not only are they volunteering, but they also have a voice in planning library programs.  Teens who join can meet other teens who share the same interests and develop relationships while acquiring job skills at the same time.

Classic Film and Live Pianist Invite Nostalgia at Downtown Library

Local pianist Breck McGough will play his original score during a showing of the 1924 silent film, “Sherlock Jr.,” at the Downtown Library on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 P.M

McGough plays for the duration of the 45 minute film, a throw-back to the way silent films were shown when they were originally released.  Film scores were often improvised with the musician watching the screen for mood changes and adjusting the accompaniment accordingly.
