Relay Services for Hearing & Speech Impaired

Relay Services for Those with Hearing or Speech ImpairmentsThe Library System’s TDD phone is located at The Village Library and the number is 405-755-7319. A TDD or telecommunications device for the deaf is also referred to as a TTY and is a text telephone or telephone typewriter. Such a device lets people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired use the telephone to communicate, by allowing them to type messages back and forth to one another instead of talking and listening. A TTY is required at both ends of the conversation in order to communicate.

Using 711 from any telephone connects you to a TRS (telecommunications relay service), which is a telephone service with an operator who types what a person says so that the person on a TTY can read your words. According to the AT&T website, 711 calls may also be made from any coin-operated public payphone using TRS. If a call is local, you do not need to use coins, a calling card, or a prepaid card.

AT&T has a relay site that is web-based so it can be used from any computer, has a 911 function, and is available in Spanish.

Relay Oklahoma is a free service that provides full telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, and speech-disabled. Relay Oklahoma's service is provided by Sprint.
