Rarely does a week go by that I do not see one or more articles about the health benefits of good home cooking.  “Eat more vegetables and fruits,” they coach.  “Pursue the Mediterranean diet,” they preach.  “Ditch the beef in favor of fish and chicken,” they challenge.  To a retired single person, that advice may sound good, but is it really going to make a difference?  Most seniors are more likely to sit down to a bowl of cereal or a sandwich than to a home-cooked meal.  After years of cooking for a family, it may be hard to motivate oneself to cook for only one. Don't worry the library has a number of cookbooks seasoned just right for the single cook.

As of today, there are only 9 more shopping days until Christmas. Luckily, today is National Cupcake Day, so grab a tasty snack on your way to the mall. Feel the sugar coursing through your veins while fighting holiday crowds.

First mention of the cupcake in America can be traced back to 1796. Amelia Simmons mentioned “a cake to be baked in small cups” in American Cookery. Quite popular with colonial cooks, only 4 copies are known to exist from that first printing.
