    The closing ceremony in Pyeongchang ended another chapter in Olympic history. In a flashy display of fireworks and ingenuity, organizers created a program that infused components of ancient Korean culture with elements highlighting strong economic and technological advancements. Among its many exports that were on display, K-pop was front and center with performances from EXO and former 2NE1 member, CL.

Most everyone else sees us as old maids who wear cardigans and shush people. When I first told people I was going to library school, I got scoffs and sneers, “What do they teach you, how to alphabetize?”

    Hey, I’ve got a proposition I would like you to consider. Instead of doing the whole Valentine’s Day business this year, what if you completely ignored the customary hubbub of the holiday and stayed in to get completely unnerved with some good old-fashioned horror cinema? Surely, I’m not the first person to propose such a venture? To sweeten the pot, I have even gone to the trouble of curating a handful of titles to help you pull off this feat.

    This is the time of year when I go into movie-watching high gear. At any other time of year, I can watch whatever strikes my fancy, be it studio blockbuster or weird indie film. But between December and March, I’ve got to get as many of the major award nominees watched as possible before the telecasts of the awards ceremonies, so I can feel cultured while I critique everyone’s outfits and speeches. It’s tradition.
