    2014 was a wild year for your friendly neighborhood library. We got a new catalog for you folks, all-new software for our staff, and a shiny new Executive Director (Hi, Boss!). We loved our old things, but our Extreme Makeover has left us looking better than ever. Our vehicles even enjoyed a makeover last year.  Hop in and join me on a road trip now as we go back, back, back in time, ALLLLLL the way back…. to 2014.

    It seems like just yesterday we entered 2004 - mere toddlers in the new millennium. It was a swiftly changing world with one musical foot still planted in grunge rock and one in a new, strange land of Eminem.  A tsunami devastated the Indonesian coast—the Boston Red Sox finally broke the 86-year “curse of the Bambino” by winning the World Series for the first time since 1918—Oops! She did it again!

    We weren't using the new Commodore 64 computers, but MLS did begin offering our first database services, Datatimes, which searched local newspapers, and NEWSearch, which searched newspapers around the globe, in 1982.

In 1974 the Metropolitan Library System was 11 years old and going strong with 13 locations and four roving bookmobiles. Service, innovation and expansion were priorities.
