Showcase your writing skills and creativity!

You could be published on the Metropolitan Library's website, featured in the first volume of our upcoming literary journal, and honored at a city-wide literary festival.

Eligibility
  • Must live, work, or attend school in the Metropolitan Library System's service area and have a current Metropolitan Library System Card.
  • Eligible participants may submit a maximum of 2 entries in all categories.
  • A completed online entry form must accompany each submission. Incomplete forms and/or entries will not be judged.
  • March 6th, 2017 is the submission deadline.
Categories
Short Story Fiction

Fictional work with a fully developed theme, significantly shorter and less elaborate than a novel

Entries must

  • Be in the English language,
  • Not be copied from any other sources,
  • Not have been previously published, and
  • Be 3,000 words or less.

Poetry

Work expressing feelings and/or ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm

Entries must

  • Be in the English language,
  • Not be copied from any other sources,
  • Not have been previously published, and
  • Contain 1 to 3 works.

Non-fiction Essay

Work based on a single subject matter, often giving the author's personal opinion

Entries must

  • Be in the English language,
  • Not be copied from any other sources,
  • Not have been previously published, and
  • Be 1,500 words or less.

Parody

Work that creatively re-imagines and/or satirizes a previous work in an exaggerated fashion

Entries must

  • Be in the English language,
  • Not be copied from any other sources,
  • Not have been previously published, and
  • Be 1,500 words or less
