Event Description

Join us the 3rd Saturday every month for Author Hour: where we talk writing, publishing and everything in between. Questions are always welcome. This month, we'll be joined by two graphic novelists: Alexis Castellanos , author of ISLA TO ISLAND, and Laura Gao, author of MESSY ROOTS. They will share how they develop a storyline, the artistic and publication process and more.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Alexis Castellanos

Alexis Castellanos was born and raised in Florida where she enjoyed sunny days, dramatic thunderstorms, and delicious Cuban food. After graduating from college, she moved to New York City and worked as a scenic artist, bringing theatrical sets to life with a little bit of paint and a whole lot of ingenuity. She currently works as a graphic designer by day and spends her nights dreaming up stories. She lives in Seattle with her partner and her extremely photogenic cat, Belle. Isla to Island is her first graphic novel.

Laura’s art career began by doodling on Pokémon cards and has since blossomed to be featured on NPR, HuffPost, and, most notably, her parents’ fridge. She is a proud queer Asian American immigrant and strives to inspire others to live unapologetically loud. Laura’s pronouns are she/they. Say hello and send her bakery recommendations at www.lauragao.com.
