Program Description

Event Description

June 19th (also known as Juneteenth) is Emancipation Day - a celebration to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862. Celebrate the good news by making your own Emancipation Day Flag with this kit.
