Program Description

Event Description

April is National Poetry Month. Join us for a special speaker as we discuss the work of influential Black poet and novelist Paul Laurence Dunbar. Open Mic Poetry Night. Are you an amateur, a seasoned poet, or somewhere in between and looking for someplace to express your talent? Local poets have an opportunity to read their own work or just sit and listen to the work of other budding poets. This is a recurring event and takes place on the last Monday of each month. We are going online. Register and we will send you the link.

This event is in commemoration of the centennial of the Metropolitan Library System's first branch, the Ralph Ellison Library, formerly the Paul Laurence Dunbar Branch Library. This year we celebrate 100 years of service to our community, which has seen its library grow and adapt through five locations throughout the century.

Look for more information about our centennial and upcoming programming on our webpage- https://www.metrolibrary.org/locations/ralph-ellison
