DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the powerful text-based works of Oklahoma-based ar
 tist, Edgar Heap of Birds, and his exhibit HONOR SONG at the Oklahoma Co
 ntemporary Arts Center, this activity transforms a blank license plate int
 o a meaningful art piece. Guests will select four words that evoke emotion
 , use stickers to spell them out, and then apply layers of acrylic paint w
 ith a brayer. Once the stickers are peeled away, the words remain in white
 , creating a striking contrast against the painted surface, echoing Heap o
 f Birds’ signature “wall lyrics.”   This is an opportunity to exp
 lore Heap of Birds’ use of monotype printing technique, and his use of n
 ontraditional materials such as traffic sign aluminum panels, as well as h
 is dynamic interplay of color, text, and abstraction to reflect on languag
 e, identity, and the power of words in visual storytelling.  This progra
 m is generously funded by Kirkpatrick Foundation in collaboration with Okl
 ahoma Contemporary Arts Center.
