Biographical note

Materials collected and donated by the family of Reymundo Madrid.

Throughout his life Rey held many positions, a testament to his continuous efforts to give back to the community. After joining the Air Force in 1966, Rey served his country valiantly in Vietnam, spending time in Spain, West Germany, Greenland, and various travels around the world. During his service Rey oversaw transportation and logistics for all types of cargo aircraft in the Air Force inventory. While in the Air Force, Rey also received training to counsel personnel encountering substance abuse as well as mentoring enlisted personnel in their career progression. This began a lifelong commitment to give back and mentor in the community.

Rey served as a member and coordinator of various community organizations including the League of United Latin American Citizens, the American GI Forum, the Little Flower Catholic Action Club, and a president of Yumaré Mexican Folkloric Dancers, Inc. In each of these organizations he facilitated promoting education and Hispanic achievement. Rey was also instrumental in mentoring at-risk youth. In 1992 he became a coordinator and a Preventionist with Eagle Ridge Institute working closely with local agencies impacting high-risk youth. In this he helped provide a positive environment for youth to succeed and implemented programs aimed at gang awareness, preventing substance abuse, and empowering youth.
