Andrew J. Beale (1889-1890), Official Portrait

Description:

Andrew Jackson Beale (b Mason County, Va. 1831 d Cynthiana, Ky. 1909). Beale was remembered by nearly all the early city biographers as a genteel southerner. He was no stranger to a fight however, having been a veteran of several of the Civil War’s bloodiest battles as an officer and a surgeon in the Confederate Orphan Brigade of Kentucky. After a hotly contested race between himself and prominent Oklahoma City citizen Henry Overholser, Beale won by a margin of 13 votes. He served as mayor from November 27, 1889 - December 30, 1890.
