Mayor Thomas McGee (1933-1935), Official Portrait

Mayor Thomas McGee (1933-1935), Official Portrait

Description:

Thomas E. McGee was born January 26, 1887. After coming to Oklahoma in the 1920s, he ran for mayor against CJ Blinn in the recall election of 1933. After weeks of recounts, McGee found himself in the mayor’s office for a full 30 minutes before a judge removed him due to the dispute with Mayor Blinn. After a hotly contested recall race, McGee was finally made mayor on November 7, 1933. Blinn would continue to fight for his mayoral seat back for a short time, but eventually McGee would serve as mayor for two years as Oklahoma began to crawl out of the Depression. Thomas McGee died on November 15, 1963 and is buried in Rose Hill Burial Park.
