Mayor Ronald J. Norick (1987-1999), Official Portrait

Description:

The son of former Oklahoma City Mayor Jim Norick, Ron Norick graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1959 and later attended Oklahoma City University. He became mayor of Oklahoma City in 1987. One of the major achievements of Norick's tenure as mayor was the passage, and subsequent implementation of the first Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS), which among other things, would eventually see the construction of the Bricktown Ballpark, and a new sports arena where the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder now play. In addition to overseeing the beginning of MAPS, Norick served as mayor during the time of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. He is also the namesake of one of the Metropolitan Library System's branches, the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library.
