LIBRARY ANNOUNCES SPRING BREAK PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

LIBRARY ANNOUNCES SPRING BREAK PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

OKLAHOMA CITY– Whether Oklahoma County families are traveling or planning a staycation – the library has a variety of programs and services to keep users of every age entertained during spring break.

There is something for everyone at the library this spring break. Pass the time in the car with library materials and services available on a mobile device such as eAudiobooks, eBooks and 24/7 access to streaming music and movies. Families planning to stay local for the break can visit the many March library programs including zip lines engineering design, star gazing with the Lunar Sooners, crafternoon, jewelry tech design, origami with a twist and more.

“We try to plan exciting and educational programs for all ages, and spring break is no exception,” Children’s Services Manager, Kristin Williamson said. “We will have something to keep every member of the family entertained this spring break.”

The library recommends users check out some of these applications to keep the family entertained without spending a penny:

Libby & OverDrive

These apps are a great way to check out eBooks and eAudiobooks on the go. Users do not have to be connected to WiFi to check out materials from these apps. However, users looking to conserve cellular data can always download materials before leaving the house.

Hoopla

Hoopla not only offers video content such as movies and documentaries, but account holders can also access popular new music albums to stream on the go from the Hoopla app. Hoopla also has a large selection of eAudiobooks and eBooks, so users can check Hoopla if their favorite title is unavailable through Libby or OverDrive.

Kanopy

Kanopy is another resource for streaming video content from a mobile device and it includes a variety of educational content for all ages. Independent films, The Great Courses instructional videos and some more mainstream films are also available through Kanopy. Kanopy Kids is a collection with content curated exclusively for children including educational content in addition to popular movies and cartoons.

Speakaboos

For young children Speakaboos is a great option for travel. Speakaboos is an educational mobile application that users can access free with their library account. It is an early literacy tool in which children can have stories read to them, read them independently or they can read and play with the interactive elements in each story.

In addition to these resources, the library’s website gives accountholders access to a variety of other resources available from home including kid’s online language learning platform Little Pim, Culture Grams, Learning Express, Consumer Reports, National Geographic Kids and others.

Account holders can learn more about the library’s programs and services, including 24/7 online access to services, on the library’s website metrolibrary.org.
