Metropolitan Library System Announces Friends Booksale

Metropolitan Library System Announces Friends Booksale

Love books? Like sale prices? The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System are hosting a booksale that is sure to delight booklovers everywhere.

One of the largest booksales in the nation will take place in Oklahoma City Saturday and Sunday Feb. 22 and 23, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds Expo Hall. Admission is free. The Friends are offering thousands of affordable titles at their annual public booksale event.

A pre-sale will be held Feb. 21 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Friends members. Those wishing to join the Friends may purchase memberships online for $10 by visiting www.supportmls.org/FOL and clicking on membership. Memberships may also be purchased for $15 in the lobby the day of the pre-sale party from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again after 6 p.m.

The event offers over 800,000 materials including books, CDs, DVDs, books on tape or CD, and vinyl records. In the general section, hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks and magazines are $0.50 each. Books in the collectors’ choice section are individually priced, most less than $5 per item. At the end of the sale Sunday, nonprofit groups and teachers are invited to take their choice of books for free from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the booksale are used to fund expenses not covered by the library system’s budget such as additional computers, artwork, special programming and many other needs. To date the Friends have given more than $4.8 million in grants to the Metropolitan Library System.

Coordinator for this year’s booksale is Friends’ volunteer Don Dobry. To volunteer to work at the booksale, visit: www.supportmls.org/FOL and click on volunteer. For addition questions please contact the Friends at (405) 606-3763 or email friends@metrolibrary.org.
