Literary Voices® and the impact of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Proceeds from the Literary Voices® series benefit the Library Endowment Trust and the Friends of the Library's initiative to establish funds for the expansion and sustainability of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) in Oklahoma County. This transformative program offers free monthly books to children aged 0-5, promoting diversity, nurturing self-esteem, and igniting a lifelong passion for reading. Your contribution will have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of young readers in our community.

Kate Millar has witnessed firsthand the profound impact of DPIL through her daughter Evie.

"We've always been a family that cherishes reading," Millar said. "I've long understood the significance of reading to children, not only for fostering a strong bond but also for nurturing language skills. From a very early age, we made it a ritual to read to Evie every night before bed."

When Millar received an email announcing the DPIL program's arrival in Oklahoma City, she seized the opportunity to acquire age-appropriate books for her daughter. Over the past year, they have been receiving these books regularly.

Millar noticed that as they started receiving books from the DPIL program, her daughter began to admire Dolly Parton not just as a beloved figure in entertainment but also as a successful businesswoman and a role model.

“Dolly Parton is an exceptional role model whom I want my daughter to emulate. I'm thrilled that my daughter is not only interested in reading and books but also in Dolly Parton as a woman. Seeing her excitement when a package arrives with Dolly's name on it and witnessing her enthusiasm for the program and reading warms my heart. That's precisely the essence of the program—to instill a love for reading and inspire admiration for remarkable individuals like Dolly. I'm immensely grateful to have both the library and the Dolly Parton program as partners in nurturing my daughter's love for reading." - Kate Millar
