The holiday season is a time for connection, creativity and community, and your local library is here to make the season even brighter and a lot more affordable. 

This year, skip the crowded stores and, instead, head to the Makerspaces at the Bethany, Belle Isle and Almonte Libraries. With 3D printers, Cricut machines and sewing machines, you can design and craft personalized gifts that are as unique as the people receiving them. Makerspace reservations are free for all library cardholders, and each visitor can have one active session at a time. A signed user agreement ensures everyone can safely enjoy the equipment, and library staff are always happy to help you get started. 

Imagine designing custom ornaments with a Cricut, stitching cozy handmade scarves or printing personalized keychains and figurines on a 3D printer. Not only will your gifts stand out, but they’ll also carry the extra magic that comes from something made with care. Plus, you’ll be part of a community of library creatives! 

Throughout the season, many libraries are also hosting holiday crafting events, where you can make ornaments, beaded treasures and other festive creations. It’s a great opportunity to craft alongside neighbors, friends and family in a creative space. Some libraries are even holding gift-wrapping parties, where you can bring your presents and wrap them in community. 

For families, another fun library offering is the Kids’ Holiday Shoppe at Southern Oaks Library Dec. 16. This event gives children the chance to choose gifts for their loved ones, helping them experience the joy of giving in a fun, supportive setting. 

Even if you can’t make it to the library in person, you can still tap into the spirit of creativity from home. With the library’s eResources, you’ll find a wealth of digital crafting inspiration, from step-by-step guides and video tutorials to eBooks filled with DIY ideas. Whether you’re designing handmade cards, baking festive treats or learning a new skill, your library card unlocks a world of creative possibilities right at your fingertips.
