Voices of Gratitude: Why We Love Our Libraries

Voices of Gratitude: Why We Love Our Libraries

While we're in a time of holiday celebration and togetherness, the Metropolitan Library System wants to express our gratitude. We’re thankful to be your community hub, and it seems the feeling is mutual! Our libraries are vibrant spaces where everyone can find something to cherish—whether you’re a teen exploring our 3D printer, a parent organizing playdates, or an older adult accessing holds with ease. This season, let’s celebrate the connections and joy our libraries bring!

We extend our heartfelt thanks for the resources, programs, and dedicated staff that make our libraries vital. We appreciate everyone who walks through our doors—guests, volunteers, staff, and advocates. Your support keeps us thriving, and we look forward to serving you for years to come! Here is what you, our guests, had to say about why you are thankful for the library!

  • I've been going to the library almost every week since I was in grade school (I'm now 65), and it is still my favorite place. In the many places I've lived through the years, finding the nearest library has always been at the top of my priority list. My access to so many books has led me to a long and happy career, first as a newspaper reporter and then as an editor. Public libraries are a wonderful gift and resource to us all that we should never take for granted. I can't imagine life without them! The Edmond library is always bustling with people and activities, but for me, it also feels like a tranquil oasis where I can take a break on a busy weekend. It's beautiful inside and out, and the staff are all so nice and ready to lend a hand.

("I love my library because they are always very kind and help me with whatever I need—copies, printing, or any work on the computer. The atmosphere is so nice and cozy. Thank you for being an excellent place with a great qualified staff to serve.")

  • My family loves the library! We use the Libby and Hoopla apps daily to listen to audiobooks and we love to attend arts and crafts and children's programs at the library. The staff is always welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Thank you, Metropolitan Library System!

  • I love the library. When I walk in, I feel excited. Libraries have always been a part of my life, as a young girl I would sit and read the books I had checked out from the library. As a young mom, I took my children to story time and cultivated a love for reading in them. They have continued that habit with their children. My husband and I love taking our grandchildren to the library when we visit them. When I am unable to go to the library in person, I enjoy checking out books online.

  • The Edmond library was a safe haven for me in high school. I learned how to write my first resume. I wrote many school papers on the library computers because I didn't have a home computer. I could go to the library for peace & quiet, reading and play games. I love the library & all the functions it provides for our communities. I love the Libby app too. I'm thankful for the library then and now.

  • I love my library because they offer curbside pick-ups. I am physically handicapped, and it is hard for me to walk. I would not check out as many items, or as often if this service was not offered. All of the staff are very helpful and friendly. I love my library!

  • Libraries are so much more than just a place for books. I love libraries because they enhance my ability to learn, to connect with my community and enrich my life in many unexpected ways. It opens my eyes and heart, and it is where imagination begins. I can enjoy a peaceful reading passage, I can connect with others, and I even teach my daughter to love reading as I do.

  • My library is upbeat and friendly. It’s full of experiences - just waiting for me to tuck into my book bag. The staff is so friendly, and I even got a recipe from my favorite staff member on a cold winter’s day! When I wished to find an obscure book, you can’t imagine the trouble they went to, to track it for me! Who wouldn’t love my library?

  • The Warr Acres Library has been a game changer for my daughter Gigi. Specifically, the children’s librarian. I don’t know what it is about her, but she has created a magical environment that encourages learning for all children. She engages all of the children that come into the library and encourages them to engage in the activities and classes that she plans. But more than that, she encourages a love of reading. I have seen her sit on the floor and help Gigi pick out books and she takes such interest in Gigi when we are there. You can tell that being a librarian is more than a job to her, it’s her passion. She has made Gigi fall in love with reading in ways that I never could. She’s made my G curious.
