Event Description
Happy 250th Birthday America! Come celebrate America's founding with Metro and Almonte! On July 4th, 1776, the Second Continental Congress officially approved the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. Five months later, just 30 miles from Independence Hall, General George Washington bravely crossed the Delaware River on December 25, 1776. Washington's daring crossing and the Continental Army's success at the First Battle of Trenton sparked a major turning point in America's fight for independence.
To celebrate America's 250th birthday, Metropolitan Library System is thrilled to partner with Pennsylvania's Friends of Washington Crossing Park to bring Revolutionary War history to OKC. Guests get video access to a Washington Crossing Historic Park staff member, on site where Washington crossed, reading the Declaration. Throughout July at Almonte, you can sign a large copy of the Declaration of Independence, just like the founders! You can also check out books and materials relating to America's founding moment. We hope to see you there!
