Join us making beautiful beaded spiders.  Spiders hold different meanings to different tribes:

  • Cherokee believe that the spider is known bringing fire to the people, using her web to carry it safely back to the land from an island.
  • Choctaw have a story of Grandmother Spider stealing fire and bringing it to humans.
  • Lakota speak of Iktomi who is a trickster spirit who appears as a spider. He is known for his cunning and mischievous nature and plays a role in teaching important lessons through his actions.
  • Navajo and Hopi have Spider Woman who is a sacred figure who taught the people to weave and create beauty, symbolizing protection and life’s interconnectedness.
