Event Description

A Summer Reading, Art, & Science Experience

Step outside and let curiosity shine! Families are invited to Shadow-Saurus Portraits, a hands‑on summer activity that blends art, science, and imagination—featuring everyone’s favorite prehistoric friends.

Children will choose a dinosaur toy and trace the shadows their dinosaurs create on paper. Along the way, library staff will spark conversation with playful questions about light, time, and observation—encouraging kids to think like both artists and scientists.

After tracing their dinosaur shadows, children can compare their portraits and talk about what they notice. Finished artworks will be displayed in a library Shadow Portrait Gallery, creating an opportunity for families to admire the work together and continue the conversation at home.

This drop‑in program supports summer reading by promoting creativity, curiosity, and language development in a relaxed, family‑friendly setting. No prior art or science experience needed—just a love of dinosaurs and a sunny day!

Recommended for: Preschool–early elementary
Materials provided: Dinosaur toys, paper, and drawing tools

Come explore light, shadows, and stories—one dinosaur at a time!
