Program Description

Event Description

Join us on Saturday May 18 at 11 am to immerse yourself in the beauty of a traditional Way of Tea Japanese tea ceremony, hosted by the Oklahoma Chado, Urasenke Chado school in Oklahoma, and the Japan America Society of Oklahoma (JASO), a non-profit organization created in 1975 to share Japanese culture in Oklahoma. You'll learn about the cultural significance of the way of the tea, watch a demonstration, and then get an opportunity to try Japanese sweets and matcha, including how to drink a bowl of matcha. Begin your summer adventure at the library by meeting individuals from a vibrant community and connecting with the rich history that has shaped Japan's identity!

This program is recommended for adults, teens, and tweens ages 8 and up (who are old enough and interested enough to sit and watch quietly without disrupting the ceremony or others around them). Please register each individual who will attend.

Registration opens Saturday, May 11 @ 9am. Note: there are only 20 seats for this event, so please cancel if you register and then can't come. Waitlist registrants are welcome that morning, and if we have empty seats, we will fill them on a first come, first served basis at 11:05.
