Event Description
From the archives - Developed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, writers from The New York Times, and The New York Times Magazine in August 2019, this magazine focused on subjects of slavery and the founding of the United States. Named after the year that the first enslaved Africans arrived in colonial Virginia, the 1619 Project is an ongoing initiative from The New York Times Magazine that aims to reframe the country's history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.
