Event Description

Join Misty Wilson and David Wilson, author and illustrator of the graphic memoir PLAY LIKE A GIRL, as we discuss graphic novels! Graphic novels are a popular choice among readers, especially children and young adults, and many authors have become interested in this storytelling format. We’d love for you to join us as we discuss our process of creating graphic novels from conception to publication.

About the authors:
David Wilson is an illustrator, designer, writer, and filmmaker with an MFA from Kent State University in Visual Communication Design. David entered the freelance world over ten years ago, working on illustration, design, and video projects for clients such as The Atlantic, The WWE, Boom! Comics, The Boston Globe, Harvard, Forbes and many more. He is a Creative Director at Belt Publishing where he was a recipient of AIGA’s “50 Books 50 Covers” award for his Belt Revivals book covers. He is the co-author/illustrator of Rust Belt Arcana, author of The Everyday and the writer/director of The Disposal of Dead Ned (Best Comedy Film at Poor Life Choices Film Fest). His latest work, Play Like A Girl, written by Misty Wilson, comes out in September 2022 on HarperCollins.
**
Retired seventh-grade football star Misty Wilson received her M.A.T. from Kent State University and has since taught in a number of positions, including reading intervention, both third and fourth grade, and as a special education tutor. She’s an avid reader who loves to introduce her students and her daughters to new books. She loves binge-watching television series and watching rom-coms. If she’s not writing, you’ll most likely find her eating good food with her husband—illustrator David Wilson—playing with her young daughters, reading for hours on end, or watching TV. Play Like a Girl is her middle grade debut.
