Program Description

Event Description

Since prehistory, the winter solstice has been a significant time of year in many cultures and has been marked by festivals and rituals. It marks the symbolic death and rebirth of the Sun; the gradual waning of daylight hours is reversed and begins to grow again.

Across the world, people will be recognizing this event with holidays like the Germanic Yule, Japan's Toji, and Romanic Saturnalia. Join us as we learn more about the religious and cultural significance of the winter solstice and create string art from a variety of festive symbols such as holly, wreath, candles, or moon phases.
