Join us on Facebook Live for a new segment of Author Hour! We're going to kick off our Summer Reading Program: Tales and Tails by talking with authors who write adaptations of fairy tales, folk tales and other famous literature about how, when and why they create these stories. Today's authors have all taken the familiar tales of The Phantom of the Opera, Tristan and Isolde, Beauty and the Beast andIndiana Jones and turned them into something new. Join us as we talk with authors Julia Ember (RUINSONG), Brigid Kemmerer (Cursebreaker series #3: A VOW SO BOLD & DEADLY) and Jenny Elder Moke (CURSE OF THE SPECTER QUEEN) and Kristina Perez (BRIGHT RAVEN SKIES)/
About the Authors:
JULIA EMBER is the author of The Seafarer’s Kiss duology and Ruinsong. Her work has been featured in USA Today, Bustle, Book Riot and Autostraddle, among many other prominent outlets. Julia has a lifelong appreciation for history and classic literature, and holds an MLitt in Medieval Literature from the University of St. Andrews. She currently lives in Seattle with her wife and two very fluffy cats.
CHLOE GONG is an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, double-majoring in English and International Relations. Born in Shanghai and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, she now lives at the top of a crumbling, ivory tower in Philadelphia (also known as student housing). After devouring the entire YA section of her local library, she started writing her own novels at age 13 to keep herself entertained, and has been highly entertained ever since. Chloe has been known to mysteriously appear by chanting “Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare’s best plays and doesn’t deserve its slander in pop culture” into a mirror three times. Her debut novel, THESE VIOLENT DELIGHTS, is being published by Margaret K. McElderry/S&S in 2020 with a sequel to follow in 2021.
BRIGID KEMMERER is the New York Times bestselling author of dark and alluring Young Adult novels like "A Curse So Dark and Lonely", "More Than We Can Tell", and "Letters to the Lost", as well as paranormal YA stories like "The Elemental Series" and "Thicker Than Water". A full time writer, Brigid lives in the Baltimore area with her husband, her boys, her dog, and her cat. When she’s not writing or being a mommy, you can usually find her with her hands wrapped around a barbell.
JENNY ELDER MOKE writes young adult fiction in an attempt to recapture the shining infinity of youth. She worked for several years at an independent publisher in Austin, TX before realizing she would rather write the manuscripts than read them. She is a member of the Texas Writer's League and has studied children's writing with Liz Garton Scanlon. She was a finalist in the Austin Film Festival Fiction Podcast Competition in 2017 for her podcast script, Target. When she is not writing, she's gathering story ideas from her daily adventures with her two irredeemable rapscallions and honing her ninja skills as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Jenny lives in Austin, TX with her husband and two children.
KRISTINA PEREZ is a half-Argentine, half-Norwegian native New Yorker who has spent the past two decades living in Europe and Asia. She holds a PhD in Medieval Literature from the University of Cambridge and has taught at the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong.
