Meet Your New Catalog

On November 1, 2023, the Metropolitan Library System launched a brand-new catalog!

Guests will be able to enjoy a new and improved catalog system which makes it easier than ever to discover physical and digital titles, events, and digital services. It also offers exciting customization features and value-added content like displaying search results from our digital collections (OverDrive, hoopla, and Kanopy), search results from our digital services (like LinkedIn Learning, LearningExpress, HelpNow, and CreativeBug), a catalog for kids, reading recommendations, read-alikes, reading lists, ratings and more!

Enter your keyword in the search bar. We have some predictive text we can choose from or select search.

At the top we can see different formats available.

We can narrow our results by items in the entire collection which will be physical and electronic, available now in libraries highlights physical items, and available online is all of our eContent loaded into Aspen.

We have the ability to narrow your results: on shelf at is currently on the branches as well as available eContent, online at is our eContent resources, collection allows to narrow by collections in the library and we can search if the collection is not listed, added in the last is when the item was added to the collection, audience narrows by age group, language to highlight languages our material is in. Plus more

In our search results we can see the title, author, and if it’s part of a series. We can see different formats available, you can see the current status of the item, and “where is it” shows what branches own this title and what the call number is. “Show editions” to see more title details. We can place a hold or select more information. More information allow us to view more information on the item.

Linked Accounts

Under Account Settings select Linked Accounts.

Linked accounts has the ability to link multiple accounts together to view information. For example, if you maintain your children and spouse’s card, if you want to look at all three accounts in one place, instead of logging in and out of accounts to look, we can link them in Aspen. Linked accounts in Aspen allows the ability to view all checkouts, holds, fees, and library card barcodes in one place. The reading history is not viewable.

We can select add an account, enter the library card barcode and last name of who you want to add and select Add Account. The account you linked will receive a notification next time they log in stating their account has been linked to another account.

We can see the accounts were successfully linked. Once linked, we can see the number of items checked out and titles on hold increased.

The responsibility of linking / unlinking accounts in the online catalog remains under the persons named on the account not with MLC, MLS, or MLS staff. This is a patron driven feature.

Unlink by select “Remove” under Accounts to manage. If you’re linked to another account, you can see who has you linked. You can also “disable account linking” if you do not want to have your account linked.
